Since its inception, the Mike Isaacs Memorial has developed a reputation for providing hard, fast, exciting and at times controversial racing. The 2007-08 version proved to be no exception, producing champagne racing, with the trophy again going down to the wire.the third and final round of this event(held annually at Goulburn Speedway),saw defending Isaacs titleholder,Rhys Marchant, go into the meeting with a slender 6 point lead over Qld Champion,Paul Curran, with Amanda Little a further 20 points adrift in third.
With the Goulburn club providing one of the best racing seen anywhere, the intensity of the racing rivalled the best of any division in speedway.Following frantic heat race action, the points situation was still tight, with the main protagonists(Marchant and Curran),sharing the honours with one win apiece.
As lightning flashed on the horizon, the Microsprints made an awesome sight as they fpormed up to take the flag for their 12 lap Main Event. On the show of the green, polesitter, Amanda Little, jumped to an early lead, closely followed by Australian Champion,Mick Riddings, with Curran and Marchant rounding out the top four.
Disaster struck on lap two, when the #51 and #5 cars of Marchant and Curran, collided, sending Curran spinning widly to a stop in turn two,to bring on the yellow lights. The incident put paid to any chance either driver had of a podium finish,as both were ushered to the rear of the field for the subsiquent restart.
Underway again, and Little was able to maintain her lead, fending off al challenges as the laps wound down,to take her maiden feature race victory.Mick Riddings finished second, with Jay Hall hanging on for third.Curran fought back to finish fifth, while Marchant ran a dissapointing seventh,to secure enough points to retain the Isaacs Memorial.
Save of the night goes to #53 driven by Brett Sainsbury, who managed to keep the model "shiny side up",after pulling the biggest wheelstand EVER in a Micro.Woo Hoo,no place for the fainthearted.
