An invitation was extended to Mal Patton and Bill Roberts to come to Qld to run the last round at the Gatton venue and show the Qld community what the 450cc are all about. In that same conversation Mal was asked if his driver would come to race to win and that's exactly what they did. Jay Hall in the Tricorp no.54 car owned by Mal Patton started of the front row of the feature with Ben La Pla along side with Mark Giersbergen and Bill Roberts completing out the next row. On the third attempt to get racing under way with both front row cars receiving the caution flag for playing around on the starts, the racing was under way. Hall jumped to the lead with La Pla hot on his heals followed by Adrian Farrell and Roberts. Hall took control of the race and was never headed although coming up on lapped traffic gave LaPla the chance to closed the gap all but momentarily. The dicing for third to fifth was hectic with positions changing every half lap. Roberts capitalized on a late mistake by Farrell and utilized the lap traffic to move into third position and put some space between himself and Farrell. Hall claim the win and the Tiny Memorial trophy with La Pla 2nd and Roberts 3rd. The two visiting drivers afterwards posed with Tiny's grandson Dylan for some photos and it must be said that Hall and Roberts gesture was in the full spirit of the night and I am sure was truly appreciated by the Barber family. In another wonderful gesture Hall on being presented the Graham "Tiny" Barber memorial trophy ask for the perpetual trophy to remain in Qld and handed it over to the Qld president who in turn asked for Dawn Barber, wife of the late Tiny Barber to take care of the trophy for this coming year. True to how things are done everyone had a great night of racing with Glen Lindenberg showing some real pace in the third heat for the heat win and a dissevered huge smile. Sean Thompson changing to methanol for the night had a win of sorts just by completing all the races and more importantly had a smile from ear to ear when he finished ahead of team owner Tunnah in the third heat. In an official capacity the Qld club would like to give a big thank you to Mal, Bill, and all the Tricorp team for making the effort to come to Qld and being apart of an event they knew very little about. Guys a big thank you and you will always be welcomed back, it was a great night alround.
