Microsprints have been around in Australia for many decades predominately in NSW and Qld. In recent times both Victoria and Western Australia have registered clubs giving Microsprints a true national presence and opening up the opportunity to develop a series to show case this potent class.
The inaugural Tricorp 10,000 will be held over five rounds in three states with drivers already wanting to nominate from WA, Vic, NSW and Qld for their chance to share in the total prize purse of ten grand.
Naming rights sponsor Tricorp Security in conjunction with Inside Speedway Magazine are both delighted to be involved with inaugural series that celebrates the coming of age for Microsprint racing in Australia.
The Tricorp 10,000 as the series will be known will run one round in Victoria mid January, two rounds in NSW and two rounds in Queensland with the final round set for the Easter weekend at the Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba next year.
Drivers are being incentified to go hard from the word go with prize money on offer at each round and the driver with the highest points score for the series come the final night feature race at Charlton will collect a cool $1500 before the main race even starts with another $3000 on offer for the feature winner on that night.
Affordable Microsprints are and yet the racing is second to none with very close hard fort battles for every position and surprisingly very respectable lap times are posted at every venue they run.
Australian Microsprints share all the same technology as their American cousins, with brands such as Stellard, PMP, RTS and a few local manufactured chassis such as Bill Roberts chassis are all being used in the weekend battles. In recent times a few F500’s have been easily converted to run under the Microsprint rules.
Microsprints are the challenge that proves to be too irresistible to ignore and has help launch many a speedway career here and in America.
Former Australian Microsprint Champion and Sprintcar star Troy Little will again belt up in a Microsprint as time permits in his Sprintcar schedule to have a crack at the 10k purse.
The 2008/2009 national rule book is almost ready for release and most teams are already very busy preparing cars and inventory for an assault on the Tricorp 10,000.
Microsprints may race hard but come, the end of the night it is all about mateship with a friendly yarn or two and being involved in the greater Speedway family.
